SB 2208: Local Government Blackmail

Senate Committee amends language and gives bill a Do No Pass recommendation. Amendment will allow local governments to oppose wind and solar projects without penalty.

Legislators must be hearing from their constituents, because the the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee yesterday took the positive step to amend SB 2208 and then by 5-2 vote give it a Do Not Pass Recommendation.

Click here to contact your legislators to tell them to OPPOSE on SB 2208 which would strip local elected officials of the ability to represent the interests of their constituents on projects that the State Of North Dakota supports.

Previously, I had written about what this bill did in its original form:

Here is the amended version that will go to the floor of the Senate:

The amendments add a bunch of bureaucratic process to determine violations.

Protecting The Summit Carbon Solution CO2 Pipeline?

Interestingly, the amendment appears to now carve out “wind and solar” projects as things that the state *CANNOT* withhold money from local government for opposing.

If this is correct, theoretically, this makes SB 2208 more specifically (but not exclusively) a bill to protect the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline.

Citizens, click here to contact your legislators to tell them to OPPOSE on SB 2208. There seems to be enough pressure to move the needle on this one, so keep it up!
