The Local vs. State Battle On Property Taxes

Even minor changes are hard when local government does not want to give up the power it has.

Last night, I spoke to the Bismarck City Commission (see video above).

My goal was to convince the city to not oppose the Mobile Home Property Tax Reform bill I wrote about a couple weeks ago.

I asked the Bismarck City Commission to either take a neutral stance or let me work with staff and the legislative committee for a solution.

I will still seek a diplomatic solution with the city staff and legislators. But this is an illustration of why it is so hard to get any reform at all. Made even more so by the fact that this is a form of Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying that is putting up the opposition to a minor reform.
