South Dakota Ends Tuition Reciprocity With Minnesota
South Dakota Board of Regents says "Our state has excellent higher education institutions and opportunities, and our goal as the public university system is to grow South Dakota's workforce."
In a policy change that North Dakota lawmakers should pay attention to, South Dakota’s version of the Board of Higher Ed has ended its tuition reciprocity agreements with Minnesota citing the fact that when South Dakota student leave to be educated elsewhere, they have a tendency not to come back.
“The reciprocity agreement between South Dakota and Minnesota was not renewed for the academic year 2024 – 2025,” BOR’s System Academic Program Manager Molly Weisgram wrote in an email sent to school guidance counselors Wednesday. “Our state has excellent higher education institutions and opportunities, and our goal as the public university system is to grow South Dakota's workforce.”
