Legislative Records Show Distrust Of Auditor's Office Pre-dates Gallion's Tenure
Meeting minutes indicate that State Auditor Josh Gallion has played into the hands of legislative critics who already had the office in their cross-hairs by simply doing his job.
The war on the Office of State Auditor, and its current occupant Josh Gallion has been heating up.
But records show that prior to Gallion’s time in the office, some legislators were already gunning for changes to the duties of the state auditor.
According to interim meeting minutes of the Legislative Audit and Fiscal Review Committee on October 13th, 2016 (a month prior to Gallion being elected), legislators were already frustrated with the office’s approach.
Apparently, the state' auditor’s office was digging a little too deep into NDSU’s and UND’s foundation donor information, and an attempt to shut down the audit was made.
It was moved by Representative Nathe, seconded by Representative Martinson, and failed on a roll call vote that the State Auditor's office discontinue the performance audit of the foundations at the UND and NDSU requested by the committee at its April 21, 2015, meeting and that the need for a performance audit be reviewed by the 65th Legislative Assembly.
