House Passes Income Tax Cut Expansion Bill
After the Appropriations Committee came to a stalemate and offered No Recommendation, the House passed HB 1549 by a vote of 71. The bill will now move to the Senate where it faces a steeper challenge.
The special legislative session is moving fast, here’s a quick summary of the headlines for taxpayers so far.
House Passes Income Tax Cut Expansion
After the Joint Appropriations Committee failed to come to an agreement on what to do with Governor Burgum’s income tax cut expansion proposal, the House floor passed the bill by a vote of 71-19 with 4 absent.
The bill now moves on the Senate where it will face steep opposition.
The primary opposition is from those who are concerned that the previous regular legislative session spent to much money, and the cost to continue that spending will be higher than the revenues generated - despite the fact revenues this budget cycle came in higher.
