Despite 2017's Defeat, The State Senate Has Decided To Revisit The Concept Of Taxing Nursing Homes Again
In an amazing example of "didn't you learn your lesson the last time", the State Senate has decided to resurrect the bad idea from 2017 to tax nursing homes to pay for nursing homes. (It does not make much sense.)
Senate Bill 2349 is yet another attempt to pay for the state's share of nursing home costs by levying an assessment (tax) against nursing homes.
According to Democratic sources (yes, this is a non-partisan issue, no one thinks taxing nursing homes or their patients is a good idea -except the Republicans that keep proposing these ideas) this is in response to Governor Burgum's budget increase of 1% when they say they need a 3% increase.
Instead of moving the 1% up to 3%, the Senate would rather develop some scheme to assess nursing homes with a 6% levy.
