Burleigh County Commission Must Address Auditor Situation
Are the expectations put on the Auditor/Treasurer to also be the de facto budget director and de facto administrator too much for one person, even if he/she is qualified in the first place?
For several months, there has been both behind the scenes and in-public drama between the Burleigh County Auditor, the Burleigh County Commission, and county staff.
In October, I wrote about the trouble involving the departure of the election director just weeks before the election:
When I wrote that article, I reached out to Burleigh County Auditor Mark Splonskowski offering him a chance to get his side of the story out, including sending him a direct text message with that offer.
I never received a response to the offer, but that offer still stands.

Since the October issue of the election director resigning, other issues have popped up including allegations of Hatch Act violations which stemmed from the states’ attorney’s investigation into the claims of a hostile work environment.
