Again? Legislator's Alcohol Brewing Supply Business Receives $100,000 Grant
$100,000 grant to malt brewing company owned by a sitting State Senator renews questions about how lawmakers are benefiting from the slush-fund grant programs they create as legislators.
It's happened once again.
A sitting legislator is getting a $100,000 grant for his business from the State of North Dakota.
Bismarck-based Two Track Malting LLC is getting $100,000 through the state Agricultural Diversification and Development Fund for equipment to expand operations to meet a growing demand for craft malt for breweries and distilleries.
This story first caught by eye because it seemed strange that a business involved in brewing alcohol would need a state subsidy.
After all, North Dakota is currently the 4th in the nation for per capital alcohol consumption.
And #1 for beer consumption per capita.
North Dakota also spends millions of dollars trying to stop drunk driving, with programs like Vision Zero, as well as normal law enforcement spending.
So who would think that such a business would need state subsidies?
The State of North Dakota Agriculture Department, that’s who.
