2023 Taxpayer Priorities

As the results of the election begin to solidify, so too does the direction of the next legislative session. Historically more-conservative policy changes are being taken up by the mainstream of the now 90% Republican super-majority. Several of these issues have previously been strongly supported by the North Dakota Watchdog Network and myself personally.

Flat Income Tax

Back in August I wrote you about the Flat Income Tax proposed by Governor Burgum and Republican leadership. Since then it has gotten extensive spotlight by long-standing tax-cutting leaders nationally.

From 2009 to 2013, the legislature successfully reduced income tax rates by 42%. Those efforts stalled out when the excessive spending in those years caught up to reality.
